I’VE been chairman of the BVRLA’s Leasing Broker Committee for just over a year, so now seems like the right time to take stock on the BVRLA’s winning year.
The BVRLA has continued to go from strength to strength – there are now more than 260 leasing brokers in membership – up from 200 – and we’ve just held another successful kart race in aid of BEN, the automotive industry charity.
Not only did we raise more than £5,000 for charity, but the Fleetdrive team won the race! I’ll attempt to quash any allegations of a fix – there were no ‘ringers’ on my team and I think we were really lucky! It was a really challenging event with a few scattered rain showers which made driving on slick tyres very interesting.
Between my driving stints, I also had the perfect opportunity to speak to colleagues in the pit lane – brokers, funders and other members – and we didn’t just talk about lap times. The hot topic was the BVRLA’s new compliance programme, which began earlier this year.
By the end of 2017, every BVRLA leasing broker will have been audited, and the feedback so far has been really positive, with members welcoming the inspections and the associated support that has been provided.
This entire process is giving leasing broker members of the BVRLA even more credibility. In turn, this allows us to provide our customers with even more reassurance that they are dealing with professional and trustworthy companies.
Leasing brokers who have chosen to join the BVRLA have to adhere to a mandatory Code of Conduct – this is a key differentiator between them and less scrupulous businesses.
I’m really pleased with the way we have been working together to improve the reputation of the sector, but there’s still a lot to be done to ensure that anyone considering leasing is aware of the benefits of dealing with a BVRLA member.
It’s good to know that the committee will continue with this work after I step down as chairman next year. At the BVRLA’s Annual General Meeting last month, it was announced that Spencer Blake from Wessex Fleet will be stepping into my shoes as committee chairman next year.
Spencer shares my passion for the sector and the work of the BVRLA, so you can rest assured that the committee will be in good hands and continue to campaign on behalf of the sector.
