NOW is a great time to improve employee’s knowledge and skills during down time. Furlough provides a great opportunity to upskill.

As well as keeping minds active, training can provides employees with something meaningful to do as well as helping to boost confidence and support their mental wellbeing in the current climate.

By investing in your employee’s development whilst on furlough they will feel valued and not feel like they are pushed to one side and forgotten about.

It’s important to point out that legally, furloughed staff can participate in training.

The Leasing Broker Federation’s Training Campus is designed to deliver useful, relevant and value-adding training courses to all Leasing Broker staff, whether they work in Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Finance or Senior Management.

The Federation can help during the Covid-19 pandemic with two specific courses:

Supporting Furloughed Workers will look at the emotional wellbeing and some of the psychological challenge’s employees may face when returning to work from the current pandemic.

The course aims to provide a practical toolkit on how to manage these concerns and the ways in which they can support themselves and colleagues.

Effective Remote Working will set out the changes an employee will need to be making in order to maintain productivity and efficiencies whilst working away from the office.

With the directive from the government for all employees to work from home if they are able to, many companies will have a work force in a virtual office moving forward. This course will aim to ensure remote working is done effectively and ensure employees fully understand how that is achievable.

The courses have been created to specifically focus on the Automotive Leasing sector, with some courses carrying a recognised training accreditation.

These modules will be delivered in a virtual classroom and will be a duration of approximately 1 hour each. Find out more here.

Training goals

The goal of training in general is to improve productivity and performance, doing this whilst on furlough will mean potentially a better business overall upon return.

Maintaining customers through this pandemic will be of upmost importance, an employee who is well trained is generally one who is more productive and able to serve your customer better thus retaining and winning new customers easier.

Chris Ellis, the Leasing Broker Training Director, said: “Training your staff whilst they are on furlough will provide some valuable mental support and will ensure their minds are being kept active.

“You don’t want to end up with an employee who takes a couple of days, or weeks to get their brain functioning fully again.

“Also, if you as an employer, are not improving employee skills during this down time,  you are also potentially missing out on a great opportunity to upskill them.”
