GLASS’S Guide managing director Ed Hummell is joining Essential Fleet Services as commercial director.

His move to Lincoln-based Essential,  a contract hire and leasing company backed by private equity investors Endless LLP with operations spanning the North West, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the South East with a turnover of approximately £43 million, is the latest in a succession of high profile positions.

The Warwick University graduate spent six years with Ford, including being regional manager for Ford’s largest UK region – London and the South East – and then joined Volkswagen where he held several senior sales management roles over seven years before joining Honda as head of corporate operations.

He said: “The most rewarding thing about my career to date has been bringing together talented people, building great customer relationships and delivering improved commercial results even in challenging environments.”

Ray O’Toole, Essential’s chief executive, said: “We’re very pleased Ed has decided to join us. He will be a great asset to the business and an energetic member of our senior management team and board, supporting Essential to achieve our significant growth ambitions.

“He is very experienced in delivering strong commercial results in challenging business environments, demonstrating engaging and effective leadership to transform the sales process and client relationships.”

Commenting on his move to Essential, the largest provider of specialist vehicle fleet management to the local authority market,  Ed Hummel said: “It’s a strong business with many long standing customer relationships. I believe we have considerable potential to grow by offering the most professional customer experience in this fragmented specialist vehicle market.”
