THE Leasing Broker Federation has been looking into the use of data which is increasingly becoming an issue in the Broker market.

Federation members have concerns over the use of data in their online advertisements amid rumours that providers are tightening up the rules.

cap HPI is concerned that its data is being used with no licensed permissions and is taking enforcement action to stop this activity.

It licences customers for the activity of ‘Broker Communication’. This allows for the receipt of cap Codes / cap ID and descriptions that are contained within the rate books provided by funders and dealers.

These rate books, containing leasing offers, may be uploaded to advertising websites in order to promote sales and generate leads.

Suppliers of these websites may require cap Codes / cap ID in order to match to the cap vehicle specification data that they use to populate the vehicle details for each advert.

In a letter to brokers, cap HPI sales director John Dennis said that it is taking enforcement action over the use of its data without the correct licence.

Amanda Morgan, Head of Strategic Partners – Fleet and Finance at cap HPI added: “This is all about protecting the integrity of our licence. There are other data providers out there and we also have our own solutions if Brokers want to contact us.

“There is a perception that cap HPI is expensive but that is not the case for smaller companies.”
