FORMER Ford man, and highly experienced management executive, Nick Laird, has become the managing director of SsangYong.
Having run the company for the last three months as acting managing director, Laird is now fully in control of the Korean importer with its range of SUVs and commercials.
Hi appointment follows the resignation of Paul Williams in October, after 10 years as CEO of the company.
Laird commented on his permanent appointment to the role of MD:
“We have ambitious plans for the future, so this is a genuinely exciting time for the brand in the UK. With an array of versatile and quality products on the way, I’m confident that SsangYong will grow substantially in the coming years – watch this space!”

Who is Nick Laird?
Nick is a graduate from Oxford University with an MBA from INSEAD. Nick has a track record of delivering success across various sectors with particular focus on technology and automotive companies.
Nick’s experience has focused on driving fundamental and profitable growth for companies by listening to their customers and dealers. His career has seen him refresh approaches and invigorate companies, helping them to flourish over the long term, and to have some fun along the way.
Previous roles include 10 years with Ford both in the UK and Germany, operations director for a mobile phone provider, and his own Laird Growth Catalysts management consultancy company. Most recently he was CEO for a software as a service recruitment company.
