A SIGNIFICANT step forward in the EV charging infrastructure was announced this morning: a partnership between Volkswagen and Tesco to install 2400 free to use fast chargers in the supermarket’s car parks.

The programme is to be rolled out over three years. The installation work will be undertaken by Pod Point. 600 Tesco stores are slated for the EV infrastructure revolution.

The 7kW chargers will be free to use; some Tesco stores will also feature 50 kW rapid chargers on a pay as you go basis.

Geraldine Ingham, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen, said:

“This incredibly exciting partnership with Tesco, powered by Pod Point, underlines the scale and ambition of our electric car programme in the UK.

“Working with these partners to provide such an extensive network of EV chargers should leave no one in any doubt about the Volkswagen brand’s wholehearted commitment to an electric future.”
