WLTP data is to be integrated into vehicle data from cap hpi.
The UK leaders in vehicle data said that the changes were required to meet all likely outcomes from the new WLTP and RDE emissions tests.
Cap’s New Vehicle Data set (NVD) will add the WLTP information over the coming months.
The EU legislation aims to provide customers with a more detailed view of how a vehicle performs concerning mpg and CO2.
The current NEDC test cycle does not take optional equipment on vehicles into account and doesn’t offer an accurate representation of driving styles which affect the emissions produced by a vehicle.

Under the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) such issues are addressed, as it is acknowledged certain items will affect the aerodynamics, weight and rolling resistance of a vehicle – such as optional alloy wheels, for example.
The Department for Transport is currently undertaking a consultation piece with the industry with the output expected in June.
About the integration of WLTP data, cap Product Manager Beth Davies explained:
“We are planning for all scenarios and our solution includes all the data items that could be required from the OEMs and necessary for a customer who receives and use the data.
“We have listened to our customers and will be making changes to our NVD dictionary to show which values are NEDC and which are NEDC correlated.”
WLTP was implemented for all new engines homologated (tested) from September 01, 2017. Manufacturers are expected to re-homologate all current vehicles in their product suites in the UK by August 31, 2018.
cap hpi says there will be a migration period to allow all links in the NVD chain to make changes to their systems to take the more detailed information generated by WLTP.
NEDC correlated value does not include optional equipment. WLTP in its true form will come into circulation from September 2018, but there will be no fiscal impact to tax until April 2020.
According to cap hpi, data customers will be able to see under which test the vehicle derivative has passed. The data solution is future-proofed by naming the test cycle being used by each derivative. It is likely further changes to emissions measurement will appear in the coming years.
Davies said: “While the NVD file amendments are one component of the work necessary to deliver the changes, we are also working with all the manufacturers on the solution to provide options emissions data in readiness for the change of legislation.
“Our solution will cater for individually configured vehicles as the end customer will need to be provided with a true reflection of the vehicle’s emissions at point of sale. This will help them to make a more informed decision. We will build an API for our customers to link into, this will enable them to send quotes to first, be validated, and then to receive the relevant CO2 and MPG values for the configured vehicle.”
